Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Shazam & More: Exclusive Unreleased Comic-Con Info

Read A Warner Bros. Theatrical Comic-Con Panel Play-By-Play!

2018's San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing and no punches were pulled on the third day of the huge entertainment media convention. Saturday July 21st hosted the highly anticipated Warner Bros. Theatrical panel. Fans finally got to see completed footage and trailers from upcoming properties like Aquaman, Shazam, Wonder Woman 1984, Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. While some of those trailers did eventually make their ways online, a few presentations were also book-ended with comic-con exclusive footage and teasers that were not publicly released. Check out a play by play of the more anticipated presentations of the panel below, including descriptions of the footage that was not made widely available.

Warner Bros. Theatrical - Introduction

The Warner Bros. Theatrical presentation started off with audience members receiving RF LED wrist bands synced to light up during different points in the presentation. A film montage of Warner Bros. properties played (including clips from Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, The Hobbit and more) to hype up the crowd. Host and moderator for the panel, comedienne Aisha Tyler, then came out on to the stage and made her introductions.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Fans in the audience were dazzled as their RF LED wristbands started to glow blue and Freddie Redmayne joined Aisha Tyler on the stage to introduce the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald trailer. The rest of the movies cast, including Professor Dumbledore actor Jude Law, joined him on stage for a brief Q&A section.

A fan asked 'If you could be in the original 8 Harry Potter films, what character would you play?' Freddy then answered 'Hagrid' because he's one of the only other characters in the films that care about magical creatures as much as the person he's currently playing, Newt Scamander.

The cast then premiered the new trailer for the film, which you can watch below. Noted surprises include previously un-seen battle footage and the addition of 'Nicolas Flamel' - an important but deceased character in the very first Harry Potter film.

Right as Aisha Tyler moved on to the topic of Johnny Depp's villainous role of evil wizard Grindelwald - lights in the room started to flash and the character's insignia took over the screens. The actor then appeared on-stage in character and gave a speech as if he were actually Grindelwald. Depp ended with the quote "The moment has come to rise up and take our rightful place in the world" - giving a brief but telling clue as to what the villain's motivations in the film might be.

The film will be released on November 16th 2018.

Wonder Woman 1984

Director Patty Jenkins was joined by 'Wonder Woman 1984' stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine on-stage to talk about the follow up to last year's highly successful DCEU film 'Wonder Woman.'

On the decision to move the film's setting to the 1980's, Jenkins described the time as "mankind at it's best and worst." She wanted the audience to see Wonder Woman in a "period of time that's our most extreme."

Due to the fact that the sequel is only 3 and a half weeks into production, a trailer was not readily available to release. However the three did not come empty handed. Patty then introduced a brief teaser video displaying a little of what they've already worked on.

It started as two armed gunmen were on the loose in a mall. Wonder Woman blasts in to save the day, throwing a little girl out of the battle zone into safety. She then uses her lasso of truth to round up the men in a spectacular fight scene. The teaser ends with Wonder Woman speeding through a crowded street, moving so gracefully she appears to be gliding.

This video differed from previous Wonder Woman appearances in the DCEU as it was notably a lot more colorful than the muted tones seen before.

A fan then asked Gal Gadot what she loves most about Wonder Woman, and she replied that "she is more 'us' than most super heroes. All genders, races, sizes, disabilities can relate."

The film will be released on November 1st 2019.

Shazam

As the Shazam logo appeared on the Hall H screens, fans' RF LED bracelets started to light up yellow and red. Star Zachary Levi joined Aisha Tyler on stage to introduce the film's first theatrical trailer.

The audience reacted with a roar of applause when it was completed and fans lined up to question the film's cast. One asked "How would Shazam stand up to Superman?" and Levi was quick to reply that historically in the comics, the character is one of the only that can go toe-to-toe with the Kryptonian. Another asked Zachary what it was like to play a more 'childish' character in the DC universe when the rest of their heroes are so serious and he took a moment - then hilariously replied "...like coming home."

The film will be released in April 2019.

Aquaman

Perhaps the most anticipated presentation of the morning, the Aquaman festivities kicked off with star Jason Momoa hitting the stage with Nicole Kidman (in her very first comic-con appearance), Amber Heard, Director James Wan and more.

James Wan revealed that he was aiming to make a "super hero film we've never seen before...It's more sci-fi fantasy than traditional super hero film."

A fan then asked Jason if he could be any sea-creature, what would he be? Momoa fittingly replied 'a shark.'

They presented the trailer as you can see below, but also played a very special extended cut specifically for the comic-con audience.

It started off similar to what was publicly released, but included an additional scene between Arthur Curry and Mera. The pair enter into a secret tomb located within the Sahara Desert. Mera places a handheld artifact into a monument as if it were lock and key, but nothing happens. She then realizes it needs water to work and uses her hydrokinetic powers to move Arthur's sweat from his face on to the artifact. Arthur hilariously replies that "she could have just peed on it." A hologram then appears of an atlantean holding a trident and speaking of the weapon's importance.

Another expanded upon scene was a high-stakes chase on some beach-side villa rooftops. Mera is jumping from roof to room trying to escape from Manta - one of the film's villains. We also see a battle action sequence of Nicole Kidman's Queen Atlanna, as she masterfully fights a handful aquatic warriors.

The film is released on December 21st 2018.
