Ellie Goulding sat down for an interview with Maxwell on #MostRequestedLive! She talked about her new music and lots more.
On teaming up with Diplo for "Close To Me":
"This was a song that I wrote about six months ago, but it wasn't quite there yet, and I went to Diplo - I went to Wes - because I felt like he could complete it. I'll always be a fan of what he does. He stays fresh always, and everything he does is relevant and smart, and he always works with new artists, which I really appreciate. I know that some bigger DJs only work with a person of the moment, or whatever... I'm so glad that producers work with new artists - really important - and so he worked with me when I was a new artist, and so I appreciate him a lot. So when I took it to him, I was like, 'What do you think of this?' He was like, 'Oh my God I've got it, please let me do this, please let me do this.' So he did, and then we were like, 'There's something missing,' and that's when we got Swae [Lee] involved, and I was so happy when I got it back... this is it!"
On her relationship with fiance Caspar Joling:
"That goes to show what the time off did for me, because there wouldn't have been any other time in my life and in my career that I would have been able to nurture anything... a friendship or a family relationship or a relationship with anyone. There's no way that anyone can really understand my job and understand what I do unless they are in it, so when I'm on tour or when I'm writing music, it's just so difficult for anyone to really understand that. But when I took a second away from it, and I did normal things and I got to know myself again, and I read books, I watched films, I was cooking - you know just taking time out. So he met me at a time when I could give everything to him, whereas before I couldn't give anything to anyone. It's a shame, because when you're doing what I do... It's really hard to have a relationship on tour."
On being with someone who isn't in the music industry:
"You kind of want someone who can understand what you do, but at the same time, I wouldn't be dating a musician - I mean obviously not now - but dating a musician is a nightmare, so that's not going to happen."
